Do the knees really last longer?

Yes.

The reinforced knees on Babbily trousers are designed to last significantly longer than those on standard children's trousers.

Many conventional fabrics begin to show wear after around 5,000 Martindale abrasion cycles. The reinforcement used on our outdoor trousers and leggings has been tested to withstand approximately 100,000 Martindale cycles—many times the abrasion children typically create during everyday play.

Like any fabric, it has its limits. Repeated knee slides across smooth indoor sports floors—think football goal celebrations—generate extreme friction and heat that can damage almost any textile. But for the adventures children tackle every day—climbing, crawling, kneeling, sliding and exploring—our reinforced knees are built to keep up.

How long will a pair of Babbily trousers last?

Designed for a Full Year of Adventure (and Beyond)

While standard trousers often give up after just a few weeks, Babbily is built for the long run. By combining ultra-tough knees with a grow-with-me fit, our trousers often last over a year—and are frequently passed down to younger siblings afterward.

To make the most of your Babbily gear:

  • Buy the current size: No need to "size up." We’ve already built the extra room into the design so the reinforced knees sit exactly where they should from day one.
  • Gentle Care: Washing at 30°C inside out protects the organic fibers and extends the life of the garment.
  • Give it a rest: Alternating with other trousers allows the natural fibers to recover and stay strong for even more adventures.
How do Babbily trousers fit?

Babbily trousers are designed to fit true to size, with room to grow.

To find the right fit, simply use your child’s actual height as a guide. Since sizing varies significantly between brands, we recommend sticking to their actual measurements for the best
fit.

Size Chart (Child's Height → Babbily Size)

  • 80–90 cm → Size 80+
  • 90–102 cm → Size 92+
  • 102–114 cm → Size 104+
  • 114–126 cm → Size 116+
  • 126–138 cm → Size 128+
  • 138–150 cm → Size 140+

Deciding Between Sizes?

Our grow-with-me cut is designed to be versatile, each piece is optimized for an average
build. But here’s how to choose based on your child’s build.

  • For Slimmer Builds: We recommend choosing the smaller size. This ensures the trousers fit perfectly from day one without any bunching or excess fabric.
  • For Average to Sturdier Builds: Go for the next size up. Thanks to our adjustable comfort waistband, the trousers will still sit securely while offering plenty of room for active play.

The Babbily Difference: Our Signature Waistband

Instead of a narrow, pinching elastic, we use an extra-wide, stretchy comfort waistband. It provides a secure hold without leaving pressure marks—perfect for a full day of movement and play.

Why children and parents love Babbily trousers

Children don't stop playing because the weather gets colder.

That's why we designed these thermal trousers: warm on winter days, breathable indoors and comfortable from morning until home time.

Brushed French terry is soft on the inside to keep children warm, while the smooth outer surface makes the trousers durable enough for everyday wear.

Children are constantly moving between warm classrooms and cold playgrounds. Heavy winter trousers often become too warm indoors, while thinner trousers don't keep them warm outside. That's why we use soft brushed organic cotton. It keeps children warm on cold days while remaining breathable and comfortable indoors.

Favourite trousers get worn every day. That's why we reinforced the knees with highly abrasion-resistant four-way stretch fabric. It protects where children need it most without becoming stiff or restricting movement. A little mud? Simply wipe it off and carry on playing.

Children grow quickly, so these trousers grow with them. The adjustable waistband and turn-up cuffs help them fit for longer, making them a favourite for more than one winter.

Two roomy side pockets leave space for all the important treasures collected along the way.

How sustainable are Babbily trousers?

Babbily: Clothing Made to Last — for Children and for the Planet

Children grow fast. Their clothes often don’t keep up — especially at the knees. Many parents know the cycle: a new pair of trousers lasts only a short time before it needs replacing.

Babbily was created as an alternative to fast fashion. Our focus is simple: make children’s trousers that can be worn longer, passed on, and enjoyed through everyday play.

Why longevity matters

The most sustainable garment is usually the one that doesn’t need to be replaced. Because Babbily trousers grow with the child and are reinforced where wear happens most, one
pair can often replace several conventional pairs.

Based on average production data, choosing one pair of Babbily play trousers instead of multiple
short-lived alternatives can help reduce environmental impact:

  • Around 3,000 litres of water saved — roughly the amount used for 20 household baths
  • About 6 kWh of energy conserved — comparable to charging a smartphone hundreds of times
  • Approximately 4.5 kg of CO₂ avoided — emissions linked to producing additional garments

These numbers are estimates, but they help illustrate how durability can make a difference over time.

Thoughtful production, close to home

Sustainability for us is less about big promises and more about everyday decisions — where materials come from, who makes the clothes, and how far they travel.

  • Made in Europe
We produce in Austria, Slovakia and neighbouring regions, helping keep transport distances short.
  • Working with family-run ateliers
We collaborate with small manufacturers who combine craftsmanship with fair working conditions.
  • GOTS-certified organic cotton
All fabrics are certified according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (KIWA BCS 26126 & Control Union 1010800), meaning no harmful chemicals and gentle materials for sensitive children’s skin.
  • Plastic-free packaging
Orders are packed using recyclable, low-impact materials — simple solutions that reduce unnecessary waste.
