We work closely with producers and suppliers in Austria, Germany, and neighboring countries. This keeps supply chains short, minimizes CO₂ emissions, and makes our processes transparent. Our manufacturing partners are small social and family-run businesses in Austria, Slovakia, and Poland, whom I know personally. It is important to me that every garment is crafted fairly and by hand with great attention to detail.

I am Elena, the designer and founder of Babbily. As a trained educator, I have always been fascinated by how children develop and what needs they have during different developmental stages. This knowledge, combined with my tireless enthusiasm and curiosity for children, flows into every one of my designs, primarily to create child-appropriate clothing.

The inspiration for Babbily came from my own son. To be able to design durable and comfortable clothing, I completed further training in garment construction and manufacturing, as well as children's wear design in London. My heart beats for functionality and comfort, because I want our clothing to best support children's development.

I always develop the concept and design in-house. I sew the prototypes and test models myself and check them until everything is perfect. Once the prototypes have been put through their paces and all necessary adjustments have been made, I create the master pattern and all paper patterns – including size grading – by hand in our Babbily studio in Vienna.

For production, I work with small social and family-run businesses. I am proud that their experience and craftsmanship go into the development and processing of our models, constantly improving them. The garments are lovingly handcrafted in small batches in Lower Austria, Slovakia, and Poland.

Yes, all our models are unisex in their cut – they fit both boys and girls, because all children want comfortable, functional clothing that is fun. We offer as many unisex options as possible in terms of colors. Of course, personal taste plays a role, and some colors are preferred more by girls than by boys. But don't worry, even unisex fans can find many items with us that are suitable for both genders.

Just like trousers, leggings often get worn out through play – especially with active children who are always on the move. While there are robust functional trousers for outdoors, leggings with knee reinforcement offer a smart solution to extend their wearable life – both indoors and outdoors.

Normally, the knee reinforcement is made from the same fabric as the main fabric and sometimes additionally reinforced with fusible interfacing on the wrong side. This makes the leggings more resistant and extends their service life – ideal for daily use. However, this reinforcement is not always enough to withstand extreme stress.

At Babbily, we go a step further: we use a special fabric originally developed for sportswear. It is lightweight, 4-way stretch, and combines wonderfully with soft knit fabrics and jerseys. But best of all: it is incredibly robust and can withstand up to 100,000 abrasion cycles – perfect for little adventurers!

Furthermore, the fabric is water-repellent, which makes our leggings ideal for outdoors – whether playing in the garden, at the playground, or on a walk after the rain.

Thanks to the "grow-with-me" function, our Babbily leggings with robust knees offer a significantly longer wearable life than ordinary leggings. Safety in children's clothing is often not discussed enough, and many consumers are unaware that there are strict regulations concerning the safety of children's clothing – from chemicals to design elements. As a responsible brand, we place the greatest importance on our clothing being child-appropriate and safe for little ones. This includes:

1. GOTS-certified fabrics: We use exclusively GOTS-certified fabrics because the "No Nasties in, No Nasties out" policy ensures that no harmful chemicals are found in Babbily children's clothing.

2. Avoiding unnecessary fasteners and cords: We deliberately avoid fasteners, cords, or buttons that could break off or cause injury by snagging. This way, parents can be sure that their children are protected in every Babbily garment.

Important safety guidelines for children's clothing

We have summarized the most important EU safety regulations for you so that you stay on the safe side when buying children's clothing. This information serves as a helpful guide and in no way replaces applicable EU regulations or legal requirements. Be sure to pay attention to the following points:

1. No cords, ribbons, or drawstrings in the neck area: To prevent the risk of choking, there must be no cords or similar items in the neck area.

2. No cords longer than 20 cm in the waist area: Avoid cords longer than 20 cm, as well as cords with knots, toggles, or decorations that could cause injury during play or activities like running, climbing, or cycling.

3. Shoulder straps: Ideally, there should be no loose ends. Decorative ribbons must not have loose ends longer than 7.5 cm and no toggles or knots that could get caught during play and cause injury.

4. Below the waist: Here the rule is: no cords or drawstrings, functional or decorative, including fringe that hangs below the hem of the garment and could pose a risk during play.

• Water: The production of one pair of Babbily trousers saves about 2,700 liters of water compared to the production of conventional children's clothing. For comparison: an average person uses about 100,000 liters of water per year for everyday things like drinking, showering, and cooking. Yes, leggings with knee reinforcement are suitable for all age groups! They offer great advantages at every age:

From 1 year (crawlers):
For the smallest explorers, the reinforced knees are particularly helpful. They support stability and prevent slipping, which gives little ones more confidence to move safely. The water-repellent reinforcement also provides protection against dirt and moisture. At this age, pants are subject to less wear at the knees but remain functional and comfortable.

From 2 years up to approx. 6/7 years (active toddlers and preschoolers):
This is where the knee reinforcement really comes into play! Children at this age spend a lot of time on the floor, whether crawling, romping, or playing. The knee reinforcement is not only robust and hard-wearing but also water-repellent – ideal for playing on damp ground or in sand. Our Babbily pants are made for everyday life – and are just as easy to care for. Since most of our models are made of organic cotton, we recommend the following:

• It is best to wash the pants inside out to keep the colors fresh for a long time.
• Use a mild detergent without optical brighteners or aggressive chemicals.
• 40 °C is usually completely sufficient – this is gentle on the fabric and the environment.
• The robust knee reinforcement is water-repellent and can simply be wiped off with a damp cloth in case of light soiling.
• If they do need washing: the reinforcement handles this without any problems and remains durable.
• Dry on the line – this saves energy and maintains the shape. Ironing is usually not necessary.

This keeps the clothing looking beautiful, comfortable, and functional for a long time.

Very robust! The functional fabric used is developed for extreme wear and withstands up to 100,000 friction cycles. Even after many wash cycles, the water-repellent function remains intact. The reinforcement is firmly integrated into the leggings or pants and does not wear out faster than the main fabric.

We recommend letting the pants air-dry. This is gentle on the fabric, elastic, and seams, and also saves energy. In principle, the pants are robust enough to be dried in the delicate cycle of a dryer – but you will extend their lifespan best if you stick to classic air-drying.

No, usually not. Thanks to the fabric selection, our pants remain dimensionally stable and hardly wrinkle. If you want a particularly smooth finish, you can iron them inside out at a low temperature – but it is not necessary.
