Many conventional fabrics begin to show wear after around 5,000 Martindale abrasion cycles. The reinforcement used on our outdoor trousers and leggings has been tested to withstand approximately 100,000 Martindale cycles—many times the abrasion children typically create during everyday play.

Like any fabric, it has its limits. Repeated knee slides across smooth indoor sports floors—think football goal celebrations—generate extreme friction and heat that can damage almost any textile. But for the adventures children tackle every day—climbing, crawling, kneeling, sliding and exploring—our reinforced knees are built to keep up.

Gentle Care: Washing at 30°C inside out protects the organic fibers and extends the life of the garment.

build. But here’s how to choose based on your child’s build.

For Slimmer Builds: We recommend choosing the smaller size. This ensures the trousers fit perfectly from day one without any bunching or excess fabric.
For Average to Sturdier Builds: Go for the next size up. Thanks to our adjustable comfort waistband, the trousers will still sit securely while offering plenty of room for active play.

A double-layer fabric, which is typically used for knee reinforcements, wasn’t an option for us as it didn’t hold up well in the tests.

All of our leggings are reinforced with a high-tech fabric that can withstand 100,000 abrasion cycles in the Martindale test. Despite its durability, the fabric is lightweight and stretchy – the perfect combination for children’s clothing.

Warum ziehen Kinder manche Hosen nicht gerne an?

Wenn ein Kind eine bestimmte Hose konsequent verweigert, liegt es seltener am Kind. Die häufigsten Gründe:

Der Bund drückt. Schmale Gummizüge schneiden ein, besonders im Sitzen.
Die Hose ist zu eng. Skinny Fits erzeugen Spannung am Knie – unbequem beim Hinhocken und gleichzeitig der Grund, warum genau dort das Loch entsteht.
Sie geht nicht allein an. Knopf, Reißverschluss, Kordel – jedes Hindernis ist eine Frustquelle, gerade in der Töpfchentrainings-Phase.
Der Stoff fühlt sich falsch an. Steife Stoffe aus Polyester oder Knieverstärkungen aus Outdoor-Material sind drinnen unangenehm.

Genau deshalb ist der Kniebesatz bei Babbily aus 4-Way-Stretch statt aus steifem Outdoor-Gewebe: robust, aber er macht jede Bewegung mit.

6 Tipps für bequeme & langlebige Kinderhosen

Warum gehen Knie im Kindergarten so schnell kaputt?

Weil im Kindergarten fast alles auf Knien passiert: Bauecke, Teppich, Sandkiste, Klettergerüst, Asphalt im Hof. Das Knie ist die einzige Stelle, an der der Stoff dauerhaft über eine raue Oberfläche gerieben wird.

Normaler Baumwoll-Jersey zeigt im Martindale-Test oft schon nach etwa 5.000 Scheuertouren Verschleiß. Der Kniebesatz der Babbily-Hosen hält im selben Test rund 100.000 Scheuertouren aus.

Ein verbreiteter Irrtum: doppelter Stoff = doppelt robust. Stimmt nicht. Zwei Lagen Jersey halten in Tests nur unwesentlich länger als eine – es kommt auf die Faser an, nicht auf die Anzahl der Lagen.

Knieverstärkungen im Materialvergleich

Bleiben die Leggings auch nach vielen Wäschen weich?

Ja – dafür sind zwei Dinge verantwortlich. Der Hauptstoff ist ein Bio-Baumwoll-Jersey mit 200 g/m², also deutlich dichter als dünne Standardware, die nach wenigen Wäschen ausleiert. Und die Muster sind im Reaktivdruck aufgebracht: Die Farbe verbindet sich mit der Faser, statt nur obenaufzuliegen – sie bleibt auch nach vielen Waschgängen kräftig.

Damit das so bleibt: bei 30 °C auf links waschen und den Trockner sparsam einsetzen. Und wenn die Hose nicht jeden Tag getragen wird, bleibt sie länger in Form – Naturfasern freuen sich über kleine Pausen.
